COGS Makes Significant Gains in New Contract

The 2005-07 contract is now ratified. Many thanks go to all members who helped make the new contract possible.

Salaries will increase 1.5% each year of the agreement. In addition, the minimum tuition scholarships will increase to $1,075 a semester for nine credit hours in the first year of the agreement, and to $1,487.50 a semester for nine credit hours in the second year of the agreement. Currently, tuition scholarships are $750 a semester for nine credit hours or 27% of the cost of tuition. Based on the announced tuition increases of 4%, under the new agreement, tuition scholarships will cover 38% of the cost of tuition in year one and 50% in year two. Tuition scholarships for those enrolled in fewer semester hours will continue to be prorated accordingly. To see the effect of this financial package on take home pay, click here.

GradCare has been protected. During bargaining the University and the Regents hammered away at their proposal to end the summer insurance coverage for people who graduate in the Spring. They also pushed vigorously for a three-tier prescription drug card that would have resulted in greatly increased costs for many graduate employees. We made no concessions on health care; our agreement preserves GradCare as an affordable and quality insurance plan.

The new contract also includes improvements in the areas of job security, evaluations, training, and hours of work. To see the new agreement, click here.
